The Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) at Georgia Tech is hosting a wide range of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics programs this summer for elementary, middle, and high school students at both the Atlanta and Savannah campuses starting in June and ending in July.
The engaging immersive sessions in both Atlanta and Savannah include programming for youth in foster care through funding from the University System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Education’s BOOST (Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time) program. BOOST scholarships for underrepresented and underserved students are available through the Georgia Department of Education.
There are three residential programs open to the general public in Atlanta: (1) the third iteration of the First-Generation College Institute for high school students; (2) a weeklong residential program for girls; and (3) a weeklong residential Robotics Institute. In addition, some of the daytime programs offered are in collaboration with Georgia Tech’s School of Literature, Media and Communication within the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, the School of Materials Science and Engineering within the College of Engineering, and the College of Computing.
And CEISMC is also continuing its longtime partnership with Horizons National and Horizons Atlanta for the 11th summer through Horizons at Georgia Tech, hosting more than 230 scholars on campus for six weeks, focusing on math, reading, swimming, and extracurricular enrichment.
“We are thrilled to continue our tradition of providing high-quality summer learning and enrichment experiences for K-12 students,” said Sirocus Barnes, Director of Expanded Learning Programs. “This year, we are excited to offer over 25 unique programs this summer on our Atlanta campus. These engaging programs will focus on computer science, engineering, science, and other areas of STEM.”
New summer programs at CEISMC Savannah include:
- Murder Mystery: Theater and science combine to create this weeklong murder-mystery adventure for high school students.
- SUGO Bots: Students explore the world of robot battle arenas using LEGO Spike robotics.
- Drone Racing: Students learn the coding language behind drone operation and compete against classmates in drone obstacle racing.
- Engineer It: Students learn about engineering through hands-on projects.
“This summer promises to be one of our best yet with new and expanded programs as well as continued strong connections with industry partners that allow students the opportunity to see the real-world application of skills,” said Tim Cone, Senior Program Director on the Georgia Tech Savannah campus. “With the availability of scholarships and additional programming, we hope to reach a larger number of students across the region.”
