Dr. Diley Hernandez Visually Represents Her Interpretation of “Welcome Home”

Faculty and Staff Showcase Their Creative Side

On February 21st, the Georgia Tech Faculty and Staff Art Exhibit closed, which displayed unique art pieces from 15 individuals across campus. The exhibit gave faculty and staff the opportunity to showcase their creative side through a personal representation that is separate from their identity at Georgia Tech.

Following the theme of “Welcome Home,” participating artists submitted works of various forms such as photography, paintings, and multi-media pieces. Each work demonstrated the artists’ understanding of welcoming and inclusivity as well as the artists’ interpretation of home as a physical space or state of mind.

Among the faculty artists was Dr. Diley Hernandez, Senior Research Scientist at Georgia Tech’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC). Diley submitted a painting to visually represent her interpretation of “Welcome Home” titled “Sunflowers,” which was included in the exhibit and presented at the artists’ reception on Thursday, February 20th.

“I think it is incredibly important for GeorgiaTech to encourage artists in our community to share our creative work and establish an outlet for artistic expression. It does not only enriches our campus and its culture but allows us to share other humanistic and creative aspects of ourselves, often essential to our lives.”

The exhibit was visible at the Ferst Center for the Arts and ran from January 13th-February 21st.
