Sirocus Barnes joined Georgia Tech’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) in March 2012 as the Outreach Coordinator for the AmeriCorps Academic Mentoring Program. Sirocus attended Valdosta State University (VSU) where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology & Counseling and a Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management.
Currently, Sirocus is the Director of Student Prorgrams which includes Horizons Atlanta at Georgia Tech, Summer PEAKS, STEAM Workshops, K.I.D.S. Club, and STEAM Whistle Workshops (online student programs).
Prior to joining CEISMC, Sirocus worked for 10 years for the City of Valdosta and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority. From 2006 to 2012, Sirocus served as the Programs and Events Coordinator. In this role, Sirocus lead all aspects of four divisions: After-school Programming, Summer Day Camps, Instructional Programming, and Community Special Events. Currently, Sirocus is able to combine his personal and professional interests at CEISMC.
Active in the local community, Sirocus is President of the Valdosta State University Alumni Association and Board representing VSU alumni around the world. Sirocus also a member of the VSU Foundation Board.
